Back from Vacation

My photo of a beautiful, Fort Myers sunset.
What a wonderful trip and even better? I only gained three pounds! (I was 177 this morning) I was stoked! I did very well with eating low-carb, while away from home. I basically proved to myself that this can be done and that I can find control even in unusual circumstances. Restaurants don't always have nutritional information and gauging what is okay and what isn't, isn't always an easy task.

We ate out every day and I would opt for lots of protein, no bun, veggies and water. I was never unsatisfied and if I needed a snack, I'd have some cheese or drink some waters. I really think I can manage the low-carb lifestyle. I'm hopeful that these three pounds will disappear quickly. thin

So, I'm keeping up with things and hope to keep up on this site as well. Here's what I had today:

R6, P3, Day 22 - Packing and Cleaning

My trip begins tomorrow night, so I started the packing process. I'm always worried that I'll forget

something, but I do better if I give myself plenty of time. Packing the day before departure is helping. The only things left to pack are my toiletries and chargers. Everything else is pretty much set.

Yesterday, I visited the banks to alert them of my travels. It would really suck to all of a sudden have everything crash on me. Today, I picked up a few incidentals. I even have a 3oz bottle for a little bit of vodka to lull me to sleep tomorrow night (I have a hard time sleeping on planes). My goal is to sleep the entire night, if possible. My wonder woman blanket is all washed, fluffed and ready fluffed and ready for dream land.

My youngest is already expressing how much she'll miss me. She says she's excited to go and see the airport again. Then, she let me know that she'd like to ride on one again soon. If hubby's enthusiasm for going to the Caribbean continues, perhaps we'll all be headed there for vacation next year. He says he doesn't want to take the kids but, if they can stay at these resorts for free, I say, why not?

I had another .8lb loss this morning, taking me to 174.8lbs. I had lots of protein today, carbs in the teens and large amounts of fat. I could predict what will happen tomorrow (my first day of P4) but, I've learned not to assume anything. Here's what I had today:

R6, P3, Day 21 - The Agatha Christie Play & the NGA Bodybuilding Show

I didn't post last night because we didn't get home until very late. The day's events just flew by! We spent the morning running errands, then journeyed to my mother's house to ride with her to the play at the University. We enjoyed it immensely! The cast was stellar the story? Too much fun! We wondered why we waited so long to do a play together. After the show, we talked of doing one again very soon. The funny thing is, I'll be doing another play in just a few days. Just call me cultured!

The evening brought mania as we prepared to go to the natural bodybuilding show. He wasn't competing, but had three clients that were. Consequently, they placed first, second and third in their perspective categories. It was a small, but entertaining evening. My eldest was on exhibition and was very nervous, especially after her music crapped out on her. Ugh! She took it all in stride, as the audio guy found a song to play for her. What a pro! Everyone was very impressed (and she looked great!).

So, I didn't document as much as I normally do with the daily plate, but I remember what I had. For breakfast? Eggs and bacon. For lunch? Another 3X3 from In 'N Out (no sauce, ketchup, mustard and done up protein-style with grilled onions. I wasn't going to skip out on dinner, being that it was so late. Cheese was all I thought I'd have but hubby was insistent that I have something else. He stopped at Del Taco and I opted for a Macho Beef Burrito (only ate the insides).

For the morning of September 21st, I had a .8lb loss bringing me down to 175.6lbs. I'll post again tonight with today's totals.

R6, P3, Day 20 - Hoping I Didn't Totally Screw Up

So, I had a fairly light day until dinner. It all became complicated then. I had a 3X3 at  In 'N Out Burger for dinner. I had it protein style, ditched the sauce and added grilled onions. No ketchup and no mustard. This is no where to be found in the nutritional banks anywhere. I simply added three hamburgers to my total and am hoping I'm at least close. The salt is high again. Ugh! On a better note, the carbs are low. If I go up too much tomorrow, it's going to be a correction day. Double ugh!

I had a 2.2lb gain, which still takes me a little less than the point of no return (176.4lbs). I noted that

my carbs were in the twenties, yesterday. I also think my salt was way higher than I estimated. Double damage! So here's me praying that I didn't screw up; that the lower carbs will save me and the lemon water will help to flush me of the damage (I had a liter of it today).

Tomorrow, I'll be notifying my banks of my departure next week (charges in a strange state may prompt them to cut me off) and I'll be tidying up loose ends. We're also going to see a play with my mother in town; an Agatha Christie story done up musical style. It should be fun and appropriate for the approaching, spooky holiday. I'm eager to see  it and also to see how my seven year old reacts. It will be her very first, real play.

Here's what I had (to the best of my and the Daily Plate's ability):

R6, P3, Day 19 - My Favorite Mexican Restaurant

Hubby is still on the search for an SUV for his business. Being as such, we had to drive into town so that he could take a look at and test drive a 2001 highlander. From the outside, it was a lovely vehicle, but he reported (after the test drive) that there was no way he would purchase this car. A knocking noise in the right, rear tire suggested warping and it wasn't cleaned (smelled like a stale restaurant, is how he described it). Yuck!

After that, we headed west to get out of town and drove right up to my favorite restaurant. Despite my P3 life, I was able to indulge in their amazing chicken fajitas. Everything was P3 friendly and incredibly delicious. If I could accurrately post on thedailyplate, I'm sure it would have had more salt or something but there's no way to know. Oh, and I had a small loss (.6lbs, putting me at 174.2lbs). The minimal carbs and low salt have me heading south again. I didn't get in my entire two liters yesterday, but I got it in today. Hopefully, if my salt was a little higher than posted, it won't have an effect due to all the water. My carbs were out of the teens, too, so who knows.

Enough discussion about it, here is what I had (as posted as closely as I could):

R6, P3, Day 18 - A Bit Grumpy

My carbs are a bit lower than usual and I notice the bitchiness is appearing full force (I'm also thinking my period would be showing up in another week or so and the hormones are doing their thing). Perhaps I should take an extra Supreme B? I'll try it tomorrow; one in the morning and one in the afternoon to keep me even.

I had another loss this morning (.6lb loss, taking me to 174.8lbs), despite the high salt. My guess was having carbs in the teens helped with that. Today, my salt is under control and my net carbs are again, in the teens. We'll see what that does for Thursday. I keep thinking it would be awesome (and I know, not on protocol) to be five pounds down from my LIW so I can enjoy my vacation properly. Most people put on about five pounds during vacation. If that doesn't happen, I'd love to be able to, at least, maintain while I'm away. I worry about the elevation change and everything effecting my body. I better stop worrying.

R6, P3, Day 17 - Rainy Beaches

The weather channel is saying that Fort Myers is getting scattered thunderstorms everyday (even through my trip). I take that to mean that I will be cruising the beach-front in the rain. I talked with my best friend today (whom I'm meeting in Florida for this trip). She's going to supply the straw hats. She too has seen the latest ten-day weather report. I offered to bring the bug spray.

She was supposed to call me tonight with a list of our activities, so that I could print driving directions, but I haven't heard from her. This is a busy time with her accounting and perhaps she just got busy. It's fine.

High salt and a loss? Who knew! It was a .8lb loss; 175.4lbs this morning. Sweet! No correction for me, thank goodness! I had a lot of salt today as well, but didn't drink my full two liters. Instead, I had 24 oz of coffee, one liter of water (no lemon) and two shots of vodka. That may do the damage. Who knows. I'm just going from day-to-day, it seems.

Hubby is off until I get back from my trip. I think he's really psyched. Twelve days is a long time to have, just to tool around and do what you want (and get paid for it). Lucky-duck.

Oh! I found a recipe for Crock Pot Cream Cheese Chicken. It sounds divine. I can't put it over noodles or mashed potatoes, but it would certainly work with a nice salad or some Oopsie rolls. This may be my Sunday dinner for the family (or just my lovely pot roast). I'm really happy with the low-carb lifestyle. I'm praying I can hang on and do well even through my trip. An occasional carb will be fine, so long as we're doing our share of working out, walking or high energy activies. I want to make sure no big gains are had on this vacation. I worked way to hard to go back now.

R6, P3, Day 16 - Cute Toes

My feet have been looking rather scary for the past couple of months. I knew things were bad when, yesterday, the toenails on my big toes were making my house shoes uncomfortable. Pretty sad. So, off I went to visit my favorite nail tech who took great care of my poor dogs. They look and feel so much better. Thank heaven for spa pedicures! Now, I'll have cute toes for my trip next week.

Beyond that, I had another gain. I'm really not sure how to document it because I weighed, then had a void, then weighed again. I also got very little sleep last night, which I'm sure had an effect (along with the salt I sucked down yesterday). Unfortunately, I didn't do much better today with the salt. I really tried but I ending up getting a burrito and eating the insides. I really should have gotten a salad. I'll do that in the future. I was just craving beef and new it would satisfy my appetite (am I PMS craving? I wonder...).

So, the initial gain was a pound, then it was .6lbs so, I don't know. I was 176.2lbs this morning. If I have another gain, I'll have to do another correction. I've been fortunate that I've only had to correct once during P3. I hope I won't have to again.

I was able to get down my two liters. I really hope that helps. Here's what I had today:

R6, P3, Day 15 - Up and Down

Up a pound today (no surprises; 175.2lb). I had a fairly relaxed day and finally had a void (was

beginning to wonder). I drank my two liters and attempted to go have my feet done today. It seems every one of the nail shops, outside of the mall and Walmart, were closed today. I suppose I'll have to plan for tomorrow. My poor toes are starting to look like they belong on a man's feet. Ugh!

I delved into Downton Abbey today. What a wonderful show! I'm behind, I know, but better late than never. I'll be looking forward to the discs as Netflix sends them my way.

My dinner was self-made and I did my best to try to recreate, using what was listed through the Daily Plate. Here's what I had:

R6, P3, Day 14 - On the Hunt for Exotic Spices

How hard is it to find Indian spices in Utah? Dang near impossible. I went to two, Asian shops and one had only one of the spices I needed. I ended up at a specialty grocery store. They had one of the items I needed, but it was $7 for a 2oz bottle. Seriously? After doing some searching, I found an all-in-one Tandoori seasoning for a little over $2.00...not as effective as having everything you need, but definitely better than nothing.

I improvised, using the all-in-one spice, along with the Turmeric, Coriander, pepper, salt, lime and I red chili pepper I already had. The chicken was tasty, but it was missing something. Hubby said it was the mutant legs I bought (probably pumped full of steriods). I was on the hunt for organic, but needed a family pack. I would have spent three times as much for them in comparison to what spent on the mutant legs. So, all in all, it was a good meal to try but I will definitely opt for free range or organic chicken, next time.

The girls enjoyed their fondant class and learned a lot (as did I, since they don't allow parents to leave the premises during the course). They decorated 24 cup cakes. My youngest ate two, along with some of the icing in the bowl, and preceeded to make herself sick. I'll probably take the rest to work on Monday (my eldest doesn't even like icing).

I had a 1lb loss this morning, putting me at 174.2lbs. This is great, but my salt today was super high. I may bring that pound straight back on. I guess we'll see (BTW, yesterday, I had my two liters. Today, I had only one):

R6, P3, Day 13 - Friday the 13th

I had the gain (175.2lbs; a 1.2lb gain since yesterday). That salt is nothing to mess around with. I tried to keep things rather light, so to speak. I don't think I got in enough protein because I'm still hungry. All the swiss just wasn't enough. I may have one more piece of cheese before bed, which won't really effect my carbs or calories. The protein my curb my appetite.

In a little while, I'm going to watch Friday the 13th the movie with my 13 year old (we have to wait until my 7 year old goes to bed; she hate's being left out of things). Tomorrow, they will participate in a Fondant Cupcake cooking class. They're pretty excited and I'm

eager to see what they come up with. I was going to make the cupcakes tomorrow morning. I'm sure the smell will be intoxicating, but I'm strong. I can handle it (I think I can, I think I can, I think  I can...).

My head is still a bit achy, but it's begun to itch now, too. I'm hesitant to spray braid spray for fear it will get all yucky quickly. I'll wait it out for a few days.

R6, P3, Day 12 - Eating on the Fly...

always ends up in a high salt day. Me and the dang salt have been having quite the affair, lately.

Breakfast was fine, but I had to leave work and go straight to my hair appointment right at lunch time. I grabbed a KFC double-down on my way to pick up my eldest at the end of my appointment (it was the quickest, on-the-way thing I could grab). I know the protein is great, but the salt is out of control. I suppose the bacon and cheese really don't help matters. These are "treats" I won't have too often. I suppose I could have purchased a chicken breast and pulled the skin off but I was famished and ordered the first high protein thing I could think of. We'll be seeing a gain tomorrow for sure!

My hair looks great, but I feel like my scalp has been sewed up. Ouch! It will take about a week for things to loosen up and feel more comfortable. I always schedule a hair appointment two weeks out from when I have my event (whatever that may be).

Today, I had a .2lb gain putting me at 174lbs even. Still within range of my LIW but pretty sure things will be on the high tomorrow, I think I'll opt for a light breakfast and salad for lunch. Here's the rest of today's damage:
